list of cool, weird, or unforgettable stuff

  • It was Shanna's birthday, and I had taken her to Disney World. We had a great day, and we decided to stay for the fireworks before heading home. It was so pretty, the sun had just set , so the sky was full of rain clouds that were dark purple and shades of gray. The wind was blowing. The castle was lit from the outside, and it kept changing colors from blue, to purple, to green, etc. Then the fireworks started. By that time it was completly dark, and that cool breeze had the scent of rain. The fireworks were beautiful, of course. Then with perfect timing, just as the firework show reached this giant ending, the rain came pouring down. It was one of thoses tropical downpours, with huge drops of cold rain. It was completly dark and we were surrounded by this huge mass of people. We could not have been more wet. The mass of people, including us, moved toward the exit. We had a long way to go. Shanna started to get scared of becoming separted, because of the crowd. I was thinking there was no way we could drive home in soaking wet and cold clothes, so we made our way toward one of the shops. It was freezing in the shop, and crowded. There wasn't alot of choice, so we bought some very expensive clothes. By the time we waited in line, changed, and made our way out, the rain had stopped. But the castle, the fireworks, the rain , and the crowd that night, are things we won't forget.
  • I can't exctally remember that sequence of events that led to the 'toilet' incident. We were replacing the toilets in our house, when somehow I ended up driving a pick-up truck with a toilet in the back. Of course, at that time I did not remember tht the toilet was in the back, or I never would have taken off with the tailgate down. I am sure the neighbors will never forget the sight of the toilet launching from the back of the truck, sailing down the street, and exploding into millions of tiny pieces.
  • We were visiting the Smokey Mountains, and as usual I was searching for dragonflies. I spotted a huge gray petaltail hunting in the trees by the river. I watched him for a while, and he came over and hovered above me to see what I was up to. I guess he didn't mind me watching him, becuase he went on hunting. Like watching a fighter pilot...fast turns, near misses, and crazy dives. He caught a huge beetle and ate it on a tree near where I was standing. A little while later he took off, flew over to me, and landed on my head. He sat there for a few seconds, then took off again. I think he wanted me to fly with him, but we were leaving, so I just waved goodbye.
  • I love pelicans. They are so fun to watch. They are strong fliers...but when they are hunting fish, they come crashing down so uncoordinated in this giant splash of feathers and wings and feet going in all directions. They also look so funny when they are just standing around in a group, hanging out around the docks. Their beaks point down like neckties, and they have these big feet. They looks so much like a group of businessmen trying to be cool. Angie knows how much I love pelicans so one day he went to the bait store and bought some chum, then he picked me up and we drove out to Bayfront Park to feed the pelicans. When we got there, there was as usual a large group of pelicans hanging out around the boat ramp, trying to look stylish and unconcerned. As we approached, they must have smelled the fish because before we knew it, we were standing in the middle of the parking lot surrounded by pelicans. There must of been at least 20 or more, and they were not shy. They had their big beaks open and snapping, and they are really tall for birds. Their beaks came all they way up to my chest, and they all wanted to be the one to get a piece of fish, so they we shoving each other and bumping into us. So we started dropping pieces of fish right into their beaks. I tried to make sure they all got a piece, but they were moving too much to tell. When the fish was gone most of them just headed back to the dock, but a few followed us back to the car, hoping for more. That was as close as I have ever been to a pelican.
